Bexhill
And Back - De La Warr Pavillion
The De La Warr Pavillion was reopened in 2005 and is one of the largest contemporary art galleries in the South East. It was originally opened in the 30s and was the first public building built in the Modernist style, having been designed by Mendelsohn and Chermayeff. The glorious building, right by the award winning beach of Bexhill, is a fantastic space for modern art.
Also in the building is a great little cafe where you can get
a coffee and sit out to enjoy some remarkable views of Bexhill
and the sea.
During my visit, there was an interesting exhibition titled Conflict, which was made up by contributions from students at a local school. Visit the De La Warr Pavillion's website to find out more
about the building and upcoming exhibitions.
In the designer gift-shop, you can pick up souvenir - ranging
from designer postcards, to a weighty tome on the history of the
De La Warr Pavillion and its designers.
